Field Technician - Full Time
Position Summary
The Field Technician supports Terra Tech Engineering’s civil, environmental, and mining engineering projects by performing onsite data collection, construction observation, surveying assistance, materials testing, and documentation tasks. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that field activities are completed accurately, safely, and in accordance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
-Field Duties
Perform field measurements, data collection, and site inspections for civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
Conduct material sampling and testing (soil, concrete, aggregate, asphalt) following established ASTM, AASHTO, and VDOT procedures.
Assist survey crews with setting control, collecting topographic data, and performing construction staking.
Observe and document contractor activities to verify compliance with project plans, permits, and specifications.
Operate survey and testing equipment such as GPS units, total stations, nuclear density gauges, and core drilling rig, as applicable.
-Documentation & Reporting
Prepare clear, detailed daily field reports, test forms, inspection logs, and photo documentation.
Record field data accurately and submit findings to project managers and engineers in a timely manner.
Communicate field issues, discrepancies, or safety concerns to supervisory staff promptly.
Skills & Competencies
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing field conditions.
Must have basic computer skills and able to learn to use various engineering, data‑entry, and reporting software.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Capability to walk long distances, stand for extended periods, and navigate uneven terrain.
Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
Work primarily occurs on active construction sites, transportation projects, and other outdoor environments.
Travel within the region may be required.
